Founded in 2013, the Memphis Women's Chorale performs treble-voice literature and is the only adult women's community choir in Memphis. They are a talented group of women from all walks of life that love to sing and love to make high quality music with others.

Auditions

Auditions for Memphis Women’s Chorale will be held Tuesday, January 9th. To sign up for auditions click here.

Your audition will be 10 minutes long, and will include a vocal warm-up and a sight-reading exercise. In addition to these, please be prepared to sing a one minute solo, unaccompanied, of any type (hymn, art song, show tune, etc.)

Formal MCA Auditions are held twice annually, in August and January. Open Reading Sessions are sometimes held during the year. Reading sessions allow any singer to attend a rehearsal and “try us on for size.”

Requirements

Attendance: MCA policies regarding attendance are part of the discipline and dedication required to produce an excellent choral program. Singers are asked to miss no more than two rehearsals per concert cycle, although exceptions can be made as needed on an individual basis. Singers must participate in at least one concert cycle per season to be considered active members.

Rehearsal: Because the chorale rehearses just once a week, there is an expectation that singers review and rehearse their music on their own between rehearsals. Listening tracks are provided for each concert cycle to allow singers to review their music and come to rehearsal prepared.

Attire: Each singer must purchase their own concert attire, which is primarily concert black. Specific guidelines are provided for each concert regarding appropriate attire and are communicated well in advance.

Fees & Other Costs

$150 per semester

Memphis ChoralArts is entirely member and patron funded. Member dues support salaries, music purchases, concert venue and production fees. MCA does not want member dues to be a barrier to being a part of our ensembles. Scholarships may be available as well as reduced dues.
