Youth Chorale

Director: Dr. Emily Frizzell

The Memphis Youth Chorale is designed for highly motivated singers ages 13-21 seeking an exceptional extracurricular choral experience. Directed by award-winning educator Dr. Emily Frizzell, the MYC is a mixed-voice ensemble that regularly performs with the adult ensembles of MCA and presents their own concerts in the Memphis area.

 
 
 
 

Auditions

Auditions for Memphis Youth Chorale will be held Tuesday, January 9th. For audition information, click here.

Auditions will be 15 minutes in length. Singers will sing some warm-ups and tonal memory exercises and also have some Q & A time with Dr. Frizzell. Please include a phone number (singer's or parent's if under the age of 18 years old) in your audition sign-up so that we may contact you.

Requirements

The MYC policies regarding attendance are part of learning the discipline and dedication required to produce an excellent choral program.  While these policies are enforced, there are certainly enough leniencies for students to be involved in any other extracurricular activity, such as school drama/musicals, or sports teams.  It is the responsibility of the chorister or parent to confirm that these will not conflict with their commitment to MYC and their fellow choristers.

  • Singers should have no more than 3 absences a semester.

  • If a singer misses rehearsals due to illness, a medical leave of absence may be granted. Other reasons may lead to suspension or dismissal. If a student is suspended or dismissed their tuition fees will not be refunded.

  • Absences from rehearsals are to be in writing (email or note) as far in advance as possible.  Final rehearsals prior to concerts are required in order to participate in the performance.

Fees & Other Costs

$150 per semester

Memphis ChoralArts does not want tuition or fees to be a barrier to being a part of our ensembles. Scholarships may be available as well as reduced tuition. Please contact thememphischoralarts@gmail.com for more information.
